A George III sterling silver tea caddy, London 1784 by John Lambe Neoclassical, of oval form with a hinged domed top surmounted by a stained green and carved ivory finial with a silver serrated leaf calyx. The body with bright cut engraved decoration of floral pendant swags between geometric borders. An oval cartouche to each side below tied ribbon, one side engraved with a contemporaneous coat of arms in a shield shape cartouche. The lid with engraved similar herringbone borders. Fully marked underneath and with lion passant only to lid. Key present, with pierced trefoil terminal, lock mechanism functioning. Length – 12 cm / 4.75 inches Height – 12.7 cm / 5 inches Weight – 384 grams / 12.35 ozt The arms are probably for Brady or possibly Wendover of Salisbury (Papworth Vol. I, p.19) With an old label inside for J.
