'SCHARNHORST', mid-20th century, likely German, a painted wooden model of the WW2 German battleship 'Scharnhorst', mounted in a glazed wooden case 171cm wide 32cm deep 54cm high 'Scharnhorst' was launched in 1936 and was a Capital battlecruiser for the German Navy. It was sunk during the Battle of the North Cape in December 1943 by the Royal Navy battleship 'HMS Duke of York'. Only 36 men were rescued out of a crew of 1,968.
