Continental School, 19th century Portrait of a gentleman, half length, in a green coat with his arms folded oil on canvas 24.5 x 19cm Condition report: Oil on canvas which is unlined. Overall the canvas and paint layers are in a good, stable condition. There are alight undulations across the canvas. The paint layer has a network of drying cracks which are notable in the sitter’s jacket. The varnish is slightly yellowed but even and glossy. There is abrasion around the edges of the canvas caused by framing. Under ultraviolet light there are some darker patches present which could be overpaint or abraded varnish.
