Manner of Jacques Courtois Cavalry battle scenes a pair, oil on canvas 49.5 x 140cm, unframed (2) Condition report: Oil on coarse weave canvas supports which are unlined. Both canvases are slack on the their stretchers with undulations across the surface. There are minor impacts on both works creating concave deformations and localised damage to the paint layers. Across the surface are small pits of paint where the paint and ground layers have sunk into the canvas weave. In the lighter paint passages these appear dark where they have collected dirt. There are age and impact cracks across the paint surface with localised areas of raised and lifting paint and a few scattered losses. There are some areas of overpaint which appear to be mainly located at the edges of the paintings. The varnish layer is even and semi-glossy. There is staining across the surfaces. Along the lines of the some of the paint cracks fine white hazing has formed, most noticeable in the darker paint passages.
