祁阳石产于湖南祁阳，石质细腻。明代文震亨《长物志》：“永石，即祁阳石，出楚中。石不坚，色好者有山、水、日、月、人物之象。”明清以来备受文人雅士的喜爱和推崇。此套砚取祁阳石雕刻而成，雕工精细，砚台上部分雕云龙，下部分雕竹石。布局疏朗有致，砚盒上雕水景，相映成趣，为文人雅士书房摆放之物，赏用俱佳。
