DESCRIPTION: Salvador Dali's "The Wailing Wall" Original Hand Signed Lithograph on heavy art paper in a Limited Edition. Hand Signed by the Artist and Numbered 242/250. Lithograph depicting one of the most holy sites in Jerusalem, exemplifies the atmospheric style that characterizes much of Dali late work. Showing worshipers at the Western Wall, it depicts an act of devotion that takes place every day but lends it a haunting, dreamlike quality. Heightening the devotional atmosphere, Dalà has written on the wall in burgundy-hued Hebrew characters the words "Baruch HaShem," or "the blessed name," often used to mean "God willing." An ancient limestone wall sited in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Western Wall was part of the expansion of the Second Jewish Temple, overseen by King Herod the Great. The Wall encloses the Temple Mount, a holy site in Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions alike. For Jews, it is the holiest of places they are permitted to pray CIRCA: Mid Late 20th Century.
