A choice Gandharan stucco head from the Indus Valley, ca. 4th - 5th Century AD. This large example is 4-1/8 inches high and portrays a Bodhisattva with elongated ears and pierced lobes, wearing an ornate, gem-studded headdress. In excellent condition, retaining much of the red pigment typical of the Hadda types. Even the pupils are highlighted with black on this superb sculpture. Mounted on stand. Cf.
