GIBSON. 93rd FOOT, offered for sale with two photographs believed to be of James Gibson, in one photograph he is wearing his medals The Indian Mutiny Medal (1857-1858) was issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland to officers and men serving in British and Indian units during operations to suppress the Indian Mutiny, which began on 10 May 1857. The Lucknow clasp bar was awarded to troops under the command of Sir Colin Campbell who engaged in final operations which led to the surrender of Lucknow. The Relief to Lucknow clasp bar was awarded to the second relief force, under the command of Sir Colin Campbell. The India General Service Medal, was approved on 1st March 1854, to be issued to officers and men of the British and Indian armies. It was awarded for various minor military campaigns in India and nearby countries, between 1852 and 1895. The Umbeyla campaign was undertaken between the 20th October and 23rd December 1863 It was directed against Muslim tribesmen in Sittana and focused on the village of Malka. The tribesmen had harboured Indian mutineers in 1857 and were still resisting British rule over a decade later.
