Ming Dynasty The beast with the body of a tortoise and cylindrical mouth opening at the back for water, the head extending out with bulging eyes beneath bushy brows and a long horn stretching down the mane, wood stand, 10.5cm (4 1/8in) long; together with a bronze quatrelobed stand, 17th/18th century, cast as writhing chilong above clouds, 14.5cm (5 3/4in) long.
