Nagoya, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Both vases worked in silver wire of varying gauge and decorated with an identical design of tall bearded irises growing above a cluster of kohone (Nuphar japonica) and mitsugashiwa (Menyanthes trifoliata), the neck with a narrow band of repeated foliate motifs, the foot with a band of half chrysanthemum heads interwoven among karakusa ('Chinese grasses'); both unsigned. Both vases: 30.7cm (12 1/16in) high. (2).
