Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century All decorated in enamels and gilt, comprising a conical vase depicting a two men carrying rice bales, a third man giving chestnuts to a child, another child balancing a tea set on his head, signed in black ink Kinkozan, 9cm (3½in) high; the second a cylindrical vase with a continuous scene of a group of travellers and couriers, one stooping to tie his laces, signed Kinkozan, 6cm (2 3/8in) high; the third an ovoid vase depicting Hotei slumped against his sack in the company of several karako (Chinese boys), signed Dozan, 9cm (3½in) high; the fourth a squat vase with two panels enclosing itinerant musicians in one and sparrows flying among trailing wisteria in the other, signed Hozan, 7.6cm (3in) high.
