By Nakamura Baikei, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Intricately decorated in enamels and gilt, the exterior with a continuous scene of female and male revellers on numerous pleasure boats during the hanami (cherry-viewing) season, the interior well with an eight-petalled panel enclosing a lively scene of samurai enjoying a hanami party outside their lord's residence, bordered by a further eight panels, each depicting indoor and outdoor complementary and different legends associated with samurai; signed on the base in gilt Nakamura Baikei zo beside a long attestation and self-congratulatory inscription within a bird-shaped cartouche. 5.8cm x 12.2cm (2¼in x 4¾in).
