"Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1850, by Thomas Cowperthwait & Co. in the Clerks office of the District court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." With two maps inset, "Northern Texas on the same scale as the larger map" and "Map of the Vicinity of the Galveston City." The map shows Texas' only railroad at the time, the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado, which opened near Houston in 1853. Also included is the proposed route for the Atlantic and Pacific Rail Road.
