A TWO-COLOUR CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER TWO-TIERED RUYI-SHAPED BOX, COVER AND STAND; AND A CIRCULAR CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER Qianlong The cover of the tiered box decorated in shallow relief with five bats encircling a leafy sprig of three ripe peaches, all on a brocade ground, the sides deeply carved through layers of red and green with a delicate design of scrolling lotus, the waisted stand with a fine lozenge brocade design above four short feet, 7.9cm (3 1/8in) high; the circular cinnabar lacquer box and cover, carved on top with a scene of figures in a garden setting, the sides with diaper-pattern, the base of the box incised with floral motifs, 7cm (2 3/4in) diam. The wishes of longevity and good fortune are also reinforced by the presences of the peaches of Immortality and by the well-wishing ruyi-head, which is a pun for the phrase wan shi ru yi (萬事如意), 'May everything go as you wish'.
