A Porcelain Dish from the Moscow Service Gardner Porcelain Factory, Moscow, period of Catherine II, circa 1790 oval, with undulating rim, the centre painted with a green oval medallion containing the gilt monogram 'PM' surmounted by the Imperial crown, within a gilt band wound round with a puce garland of flowers and surmounted by a ribbon-tied bow, the green ground border decorated with a wound puce and gilt band with an interweaved puce garland of flowers, gilt rim, marked under base with underglaze blue factory mark length: 26.7 cm. (10 1/2in). The initials 'PM' refer to the initials of Grand Duke Paul Petrovich and his wife Maria Feodorovna. The service was called the Moscow Service as it was produced at the Gardner Porcelain Factory in the environs of Moscow. A large part of the service is housed at the Tsarskoe Selo Palace and three pieces may be found in the collection of the State Russian Museum.
