剔犀工艺在唐代始有出现，至元代趋于顶峰，传至明代宣德年间，曾盛行一时。此剔犀碗以纯银为胎，漆层深厚，古朴大方，在胎骨上层层髹漆，朱红漆与黑漆均积到一定厚度后，相间而饰，达几十层之多，如犀牛角横断面层层环绕的肌理效果，再斜角雕刻出如意灵芝花纹，线条简练流畅，流转自如。其雕刻技法藏锋清楚，边角处都修整圆润，属于明末清初之雕刻风格。
