AN 18TH CENTURY INDIAN BRONZE OF A DEVI West-India, circa 18th century. Fully forward facing devi standing on a small square base. Quite unusual here is that here breasts, while emphasized, are covered by a kind of short-sleeved shirt with a small neckline. All the edges are beaded. From the waist down, she wears a dhoti with decorative bands on the sides. She has her forearms extended directly in front of her and relatively large rings in her hands which could be used for storing incense sticks. On the forehead of her expressive face is a kind of shrivatsa-emblem. Her hair is tied in the back and falls in a plait. Condition: Good condition with usual traces of wear and age as well as fine patina and remnants of red pigment. Provenance: Originally from an Austrian private collection, subsequently in the collection of Sohel Chawla New Delhi. Hence in a German private collection. Weight: 629 g Dimensions: Height 17.2 cm
