Four Mughal columnar shaped carved marble posts with finials in the shape of a closed lotus bud, India, period of Muhammad Shah, circa 1740, the front and back of each post plain with a single incised line forming a frame, carved to either side with a deep groove into which were inserted openwork marble jalis, on metal mounts, each approx. 56cm. high (4) These posts held in place square or oblong marble openwork screens which formed a balustrade, as can be seen in Hermann Forkl, Die Garten des Islam, Linden-Museum in Stuttgart, 1993, plate 52.
