A silver filigree peacock and vessels cosmetics tray, Deccan, India, early 19th century, the filigree tray of oval form on four bracketed feet, the rim formed of a series of arched elements with solid diamond-shaped band to bottom edge, the finely detailed peacock with blue stone eyes, the wings hinged and the neck opening to reveal a cylindrical vessel inside, the upright tail of lobed form with solid round studs, to either side of the bird silver tubular vessels set into openwork stands, 25cm. high x 16cm. diam. The screws anchoring the vessels and the peacock to the tray are loose and possibly there are small elements missing, one lobed element of the tray edge has broken off and is taped to the side; the tray has a break to the join of the base and the interior wall approx. 8cm long
