A PAINTED PORCELAIN TABLE SCREEN BRUSH HOLDER China, mid-17th century Roughly square in shape with rounded upper corners and lower corners reinforced by protruding shelves, the rectangular base with two seated Buddhist lion on a side, the other side with three bush holders, the polychrome decoration consisting on a side of two figures in the landscape, the other side with a chilong dragon amidst loral arabesques. 12,5 x 11,5 x 5,5 cm Provenance: Italian private collection. An object similar to this one in terms of size, shape and style of decoration, dating back a few decades earlier, is in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford (inv. EA1980.365).
