A fine and rare mid 19th century English gilt brass carriage clock in original travelling case James McCabe, London, number 3278 The case with ribbed handle over a heavy bevelled glass top panel with repeat button through the glass, over similar side panels to a plinth base, the signed and numbered silvered Roman dial with original blued steel fleur de lis hands set within an angled sight ring, the solid rear cover offering fast/slow regulation, strike/silent lever and hinged shutters for hand setting, and winding the two fusees, the going train with Harrison's maintaining power to the underslung English lever platform escapement with gilt monometallic balance, the striking train sounding on a blued steel coiled gong on the hour, the backplate signed James McCabe London, 3278. Sold together with the original baize-lined brass-banded mahogany travelling case with recessed campaign-style handle, lifting (hinged) front cover and lockable rear door (key present), together with a numbered winding key engraved 3278, mountable on an internal brass post. 19.5cms (7 1/2ins) high (4) The case 19cms (7ins) high.
