A fine and very rare 19th century English quarter striking giant lacquered brass carriage clock James McCabe, Royal Exchange London, 2677 The case surmounted by a ribbed handle over a bevelled glass inspection panel, similar sides and a lockable solid rear door with shuttered apertures for hand setting and winding, fast-slow regulation and strike/silent, on a plinth base, the one-piece signed and silvered Roman dial with blued-steel fleur-de lys hands, signed and numbered twin chain fusee movement with large gilt lever platform escapement with cut and compensated bimetallic balance, striking the hours and quarters on a pair of blued-steel coiled gongs mounted on two substantial blocks. Ticking and striking.
