Thomas Barker of Bath (British, 1769-1847) A View at Tivoli with cattle and drovers by a fountain oil on canvas 35 x 27.5cm Footnote: A similar, yet much larger view of Tivoli (103x 81cm) by Thomas Barker of Bath was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1796 following the artist's visit to Rome. Another large-scale view of Tivoli by the artist is in the National Trust Collections at Hatchlands Park, Surrey. We are grateful to Hugh Belsey for his assistance with this catalogue entry. CONDITION Oil on canvas which is unlined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and there is a deformation at the upper left corner. The paint layer has developed a network of age cracks which is more prominent in the daker paint passages. The cracks are raised and there are scattered losses in the lower half. There are scattered areas of overpaint, mainly at the edges and in the tree at the top left. The varnish is glossy and slightly yellowed.
