CONDITION Oil on canvas which is unlined. The canvas tension is good. The age cracks in the paint layer are pulling the canvas forward, causing minor undulations across the surface. A small damage near the centre of the canvas has been patched from the reverse. The paint layers are in a good, stable condition overall. There is some abrasion to the thinner paint passages. There are small areas of retouching across the surface, including the area of damage. The varnish is yellowed and is becoming dull and opaque in areas. There is a layer of surface dirt present on the front and reverse of the painting.
