Collection of photographs, documents, patents and ephemera relating to the Standfield family, most notably John Standfield (1838-1890) of Standfield and Clark Engineering company, Grays, Essex who specialised in repairing ships using floating-type dry docks and development of floating docks. Josiah Latimer Clark of Standfield and Clarke was the brother of Edwin Clark who is remembered principally as the designer of the Anderton Boat Lift. Included in the lot is a book of patents relating to hydraulics, floating docks/pontoons, towing apparatus, examining and raining sunken ships and more.
