A Collection of Grand Tour Plaster Intaglios by Pietro Paoletti (Italian, 1801-1847) Rome, early 19th century A faux-book box with marbled edges and gilt-tooled leather bindings, fitted with thirty-two plaster casts of engraved cameos and figures, marked to spine 'Paoletti Impronte' and 'Opere classiche.' (H: 10, W: 6 1/4, D: 1 3/4 in. (box)) Provenance Collection of a Philadelphia gentleman. Condition report: In poor condition and poorly maintained and restored. Both front and back cover detached, show signs of having been previously reattached in amateur restoration. Exterior of book discolored and worn at edges. All casts present, but several are presently detached (approx. 11). Several of the casts reattached in amateur restoration, were reattached out of order, glue now discolored. The interior of compartments previously painted blue, edges tattered and lifting. Individual casts appear to be in good order.
