PROVENANCE: John Gorse (1945-2020) of Charleston, SC. A business entrepreneurs, private collectors. A retired as senior vice president for legal and regulatory affairs in 1981. After retirement he focused his efforts on revitalizing the local area and philanthropy. His entrepreneurial drive continually motivated him to privately invest in real estate ventures and many other businesses. In addition to his impressive business acumen, he was a man of artistic pursuits, collecting antiques, porcelains, oriental rugs, and artwork of many different genres. Dimensions: Height: 37.5 cm, Diam.: 31 cm Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Flowers Motif Porcelain Jar. This porcelain has an octagonal open mouth with a slightly out-turned lip, short neck leads to a convex bulging mid belly with a shr ink bottom, raised on the octagonal foot base slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of six flori form medallion surrounded flowers bloom, scrolling interlocking tendril and auspicious petals. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze greyish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
