Dimensions: Height: 30 cm, Diam.: 33.5 cm Chinese Ming Dynasty Jiajing Blue & white Carps Motif Porcelain Jar. This porcelain has an round open mouth with a slightly out-turned lip, short neck leads to a convex bulging mid belly with a shr ink bottom, raised on the ring foot base slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of many carps swims over water plants, foliage, enclosed with auspicious peals and scrolling ruyi. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze greyish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine blue rectangles lines. Made in The Years Jiajing Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
