Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Ca. 664-30 BC. Late Period - Ptolemaic Dynasty. A group of four glaze faience sceptres and rods. Each has a long cylindrical rod topped with a different floral motif. One has a blue schematised lotus and the others show more detail fronds. Sceptres were incredibly important in ancient Egypt, and were even seen as gods in their own right; one text tells of an official accidentally bumping into the king's sceptre, and his ensuing fear at the retribution from touching a god. These were probably inlays into a relief sculpture. Size: L:Set of 4: 40 - 52mm / W:9 - 19mm ; 5g. From a London private family collection; formerly acquired on the UK art market in the 1960s - 1970s; thence by descent.
