These two Manjusri and Samantabhadra boddhisattvas, once installed in a temple who serve as the attendants of Rocana Buddha. Samantabhadra (on the left) who defined the ten great vows of a bodhisattva, rides an elephant as his vehicle. Manjusri on the right, an idealization of wisdom, rides a lion. They and Rocana Buddha form a triad of the Three Saints for the teaching of Buddhism in China.
