An 18K gold keyless wind half hunter pocket watch Date: London Hallmark for 1877 Movement: Gilt 3/4 plate English lever, cut and compensated bi-metallic balance, snail cam regulation, stamped 'AD Fmsz', No.05854 Dial: White, black Roman numerals, black outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6, blued steel spade hands, No.05854 Case: Polished hinged, Roman numeral chapter to front, presentation inscription to cuvette dated 1878, armorial to back with motto 'Esse quam videri', No.5854 Signed: Dial & movement, case stamped GHH Size: 51mm Footnotes: The motto on the case back 'Esse quam videri' translates as 'To be, rather than appear to be'. The inscription on the cuvette relates to the Sturgis family of Clipston, Northamptonshire and Russell Sturgis the 3rd of Boston, America.
