A Partial Chinese Imperial Falangcai European-Subject Porcelain Vase Qianlong four-character seal mark in blue and of the period Reduced from original bottle form and capped with silver mount; the ovoid body enameled with a continuous pastoral scene of a European woman in a white chemise and broad-brimmed yellow straw hat holding a blue sack with a young child at her lap, attended by a young maiden in a lilac dress with yellow drapery across the shoulder; the tufted grass and rocky landscape continuing to show a valley, distant hills and a blossoming shrub on the obverse. Height 4 7/8 inches, width overall 4 inches. Provenance: Herschel V. Johnson Collection A vase painted with European subjects is illustrated in Williamson,Book of Famille Rose, pl. XI.
