His painting is mainly landscape, which integrates the strengths of the north and the south, and created a new aspect .He is known as the "saint of painting in the early Qing Dynasty". Together with Wang Shimin, Wang Jian and Wang Yuanqi, they are called the "four kings" of landscape painters, and together with Wu Li and Yun Shouping, they are also called the "six painters of Qing Dynasty". At the same time, he is also the ancestor of Yushan school of painting .
