17th Century or Earlier Heavy Indian Mail and Plate Shirt, comprising a 2 pairs of slightly curved front plates fitted with shaped buckles, the inside of one engraved with the Adoni inscription in Devanagri script, 2 pairs of kidney plates, 6 vertical rows of tiny lamellae to the back, the central row with shaped edges; the mail comprising alternate rows of riveted and solid links except the short skirt which is entirely made from riveted links, long sleeves, simple mail flap for collar. Good condition for age, minor damage to mail, a few lamellae missing from back. This shirt is from a well-known group taken at the siege of Adoni in 1689 by the Maharaja of Bikaner, and thence eventually to Bikaner in Rajasthan.
