China, possibly Song dynasty, conical, with a slight indent beneath the rim, the black marbled glaze pooling toward the well and near the foot of the exterior, the bisque gray foot and base, with "Gongyu" (Imperial Tribute) mark, ht. 2 3/4, mouth rim dia. 4 3/4 in.

Provenance: Purchased in the UK in the 1950s by the present owner's mother who immigrated to the US in the 1960s; inherited by the present owner in the 1990s.
