China, Song dynasty style, possibly from Longquan, with well-rounded sides rising to form a slightly inward mouth rim, the glaze pooling in the well and near the exterior bottom, the interior decorated with an oval bulge glazed in deep green, black streaks both to interior and exterior, overall icy craquelure, bisque bottom and foot, ht. 2 7/8, mouth rim dia. 6 1/2 in.

Provenance: Purchased in the UK in the 1950s by the present owner's mother who immigrated to the US in the 1960s; inherited by the present owner in the 1990s.
