The Revolutionary Movement of the Magisterium (MRM) was formed in Mexico in 1958. The movement was broad in character. Teachers, intellectuals, workers, professionals, and members of the Mexican Communist Party participated in a series of strikes to further their goals. Their fundamental demands centered on the right of the rank and file to democratically appoint their union representatives, the improvement of the economic and social conditions of teachers, and the vindication of the importance of the teacher’s social function in Mexican society.
