Artist: Henri Laurens (French, 1885 - 1954). Title: "Nature morte au violon". Medium: Papier colle (collage), charcoal, crayon, and chalk drawing on card. Date: Composed 1918. Dimensions: Overall size: 10 5/16 x 14 in. (262 x 356 mm). Lot Note(s): Signed and dated in charcoal, lower left recto; collector and gallery ink stamps and labels, verso. Executed on thin cream card. Very good to fine condition; the only issues are minor: the upper left corner of the board is bumped; small barely noticeable minor crease in the board, center left, not into the image. Provenance: If you have a genuine interest in bidding on this work kindly send an email to: provenance@stanfordauctioneers.com for provenance information and additional image(s). Comment(s): We were unable to locate another Laurens collage where he utilized newspaper as part of his composition. We did locate a collage of his with the same subject from the same year, “La guitare,” collage, charcoal, and gouache on card, 7 ½” x 10 3/8,” 1918, sold for $165,250 including premium at Sotheby’s New York, November 10, 2000, lot #221.
