Campbell Archibald Mellon, British 1876-1955 - Gorleston Beach; oil on canvas, signed lower right 'C. A. Mellon', 30.5 x 41 cm (ARR) Provenance: Mandell's Gallery, Norwich; private collection, purchased from the above in 1986 and thence by descent Note: the artist is celebrated for scenes such as this of the crowded beach at Gorleston in Norfolk and is often viewed as 'East Anglia's Lowry'. He studied with Sir John Alfred Arnesby Brown, whose influenced can be seen in Mellon's sensitive handling of the English landscape. Held in a gilded moulded frame with a wooden slip, with minor scuff marks. Craquelure in the centre of the painting in the white tents. Painted surface otherwise in very good condition and colours fresh throughout. Unlined. Overall, very good condition.
