A large carved and polychromed wood figure of the Bodhisattva Puxian 木雕普贤菩萨坐像 Ming Dynasty or later 明或以后 Depicted adorned in a flowing robe, seated upon a lotus pedestal, on the back of a recumbent elephant, her hands loose and doweled at the wrists. (H: 40 1/2, W: 30, D: 16 in.) Condition report: Surface wear, soiling wear to pigments, pigments crazed, pigments probably a later addition, water staining, hands doweled in, possibly later, one finger partially lost, tip of another finger lost, small loss above right ear, scattered cracks, with some associated losses, abrasions to extremities, scattered small losses to extremities, coral jewel to forehead possibly later, small losses to extremities of crown, one elephant tusk lost, other chipped, eye sockets to elephant empty, repaired break to end of trunk and elephant knee, losses to edges of elephant's ear.
