A carved stone figure of Ganesh 象神石雕 South Indian, 14th/15th century or earlier 印度南部 十四或十五世纪 The four-armed god depicted frontally, seated on a carved rounded seat with a rat to the front, the reverse with engraved decoration, later wood stand. (H: 8 1/2 in.) Property from the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Giraud V. and Carolyn Foster; acquired prior to 1974. Footnote: NOTE: Compare the larger (32 in. high) figure of a seated Ganesh, dated to the 12th century, a gift from of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Manheim to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, see Pratapaditya Pal, "Indian Sculpture" vol. 2, p. 275, no. 146a. Condition report: The relief is rubbed in places. The sculpture is encrusted with brown dirt in places that should be easy to clean; those implements holding in two back arms, and the left foot are partially missing.
