PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection. Dimensions (cm): Diameter: 14 Height: 24 Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Famille Rose Double Gourd Vase. The Chinese porcelain potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, suspending a tall cylindrical neck, with a straight opening lip, raised on slightly short splayed foot base and slightly concave. The exterior hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against enamel design Famille rose translates to the pink family on a colored ground decoration, depicted of abundant Lotus flowers bloom interspersed fresh green foliage , scrolling tendril, bordered with dense of floral diaper surrounding Bajixiang symbols. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. Mark on base, overglazed red seal script characters reign mark, enclosed within two dragons, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
