19th century, signed Chen Hongshou (1768-1822) Of cylindrical form, the slightly wasted body incised with a long inscription by Chen Hongshou, also known as Manweng, recording his second son's birth and a poem, signed by the artist in the year of Bingzi, corresponding to 1816, the wood of dark reddish-brown colour and with characteristic veins. 17.5cm (7in) high, 18.2cm (7 1/4in) diam.Footnotes十九世紀 陳鴻壽銘紫檀筆筒 Provenance: Acquired from state-owned antique shop, 1990s (by repute) The Yanqinzhai Collection, Hong Kong 來源: 1990年代購於國營文物商店(據藏家) 香港硯琴齋珍藏 紫檀料,直壁,極微束,一面印刻銘文:「嘉慶乙亥三月廿日,次兒寶咸生前一夕,余夢以筆授其母,冀他日能以文章鳴也。既擬顏堂曰夢筆,復記於此,竝系以銘,待長成付之。古人夢筆皆佳兆,晝日一枝為國寶。小兒嶷〻頭角好,他日蘭臺脫秘藳。翹軒寶帚資迅掃,封此管城不為小。次年丙子四月九日曼翁並書。」 曼翁即陳鴻壽(1768-1822),字子恭,號曼生、曼壽、種榆道人,浙江錢塘(今杭州)人,清代篆刻家,以曼生壺名世。此筆筒題識於1816年,記1815年次子陳寶咸出生夢筆之事。
