A late Victorian mahogany dining table, circa 1900, with Joseph Fitter Patent winding action and two additional leaf insertions, 76cm high, 138cm diameter (unextended), the leaves 250cm long (extneded) Joseph Fitter was a Birmingham machinist, and applied for a patent for an extending dining table in 1861. The Lancaster branch of Gillows used a serial number preceded by the prefix L in around 1870. In 1877 they started at 4000, reaching 6000 in 1878, therefore this table can be accurately dated to the early part of 1877.
