SUEMURA SHOBUN (1917–2000) Showa era (1926-1989), second half of the 20th century 'Abundant Catch' hanging flower basket, dyed timber bamboo; twined mat plaiting; square plaiting (base); twining, wrapping, knotting; facetted and lacquered bamboo otoshi (water holder); signed on the base Shobun; with a wood tomobako storage box titled and signed Horyo hanakago Suemura Shobun (Abundant Catch Flower Basket, Suemura Shobun) with seals Shobun, Bunzo. 19.7cm (7¾in) high. (3). 注脚 A native of Osaka, Suemura Shobun trained under Yamamoto Chikuryosai I from 1936, achieving independent status in 1941. He began showing his work at the Nitten and other national exhibitions in 1951.
