A large mid- 19th century Ottoman Turkish 900 standard silver tray, Tughra of Sultan Abdulaziz (1861-1876) of oval form with an everted edge and scalloped rim. The edge with repousse decoration of C scrolls with acanthus leaves and flower heads, reserved with a textured ground. Marked twice to the otherwise plain field with sahh and tughra (post-1864), the reverse with two assay scrapes. Handles deficient. Length – 60.3 cm / 23.6 inches Weight – 2844 grams / 91.44 ozt Provenance: Latterly owned by Victor A. Adda (Alexandria 1885-Rome 1965) who took over the family cotton trading business and formed an important collection of coins and antiquities. Thence by descent.
