A Catherine II late 18th century Russian 84 zolotnik silver sugar box, Moscow 1794 by M.Ц over C (unidentified, active 1793-5, Postnikova 2695) Of oval bombe form upon four cast shaped scroll feet. The hinged double domed lid raised by a scalloped thumbpiece. The body with embossed decoration of pendant swags all against a textured ground, below a beaded band above a fluted section. The lid with a central fluted area, the top with a ribbon tied pendant swag above a classical urn, all against a textured ground. Fully marked underneath and to interior of lid for assayer Alexej Iwanow Wichljajew (active 1781-1809). Also, with additional mark G.Ф in a rectangular cartouche (untraced). 875 standard.
