A late 19th century French 950 standard silver mounted claret jug, Paris circa 1880 by Labat & Pugibet (active 1877-97) The double gourd clear glass body with cut spiral fluting and wheel engraved decoration of scrolling foliage. Silver mounts to the foot and handle as well as lid. The base of quatrefoil shaped with embossed rocaille C scroll and foliage, the upper mounts with similar decoration, the hinged lid of conforming shape to the pouring lip surmounted by a rocaille section above a bunch of grapes. The sinuous C scroll handle with rocaille work and flower springs. Gilt interior. Marked throughout. Height – 31.8 cm / 12.5 inches
