A George III sterling silver teapot stand, London 1806 by Joseph Felix Podio (reg. 2 August 1806) Of circular form, with a cavetto edge with a gadrooned rim. The centre engraved with a crest of honourable augmentation, a hand fesse- wise couped above the wrist habited in naval uniform, holding a sword erect, surmounting a Dutch and a French flag in saltier, on the former inscribed " Atalanta," on the latter " Piedmon- taise," the blade of the sword passing through a wreath of laurel near the point and a little below through another of cypress. Wooden inset base with felt lining. Fully marked to edge. Diameter – 14 cm / 5.5 inches The crest is for Hardinge as borne by the Hardinge Baronets, of Belle Isle [est. 1801] and latterly Viscounts Hardinge [est. 1846]
