A pair of George II sterling silver candlesticks, London 1758 by William Cafe Each of square form with a gadrooned edge, a dished centre leading to a gadrooned multi-knopped column with a tapering octagonal centre below a rounded capital with gadrooned bands. Each fitted with a removable circular sconce with gadrooned rim. The bases engraved with a crest of a cock upon a garb above the initials HWC. Each fully marked underneath, part-marks to the scones, one set to the underside of drip pan, the other to the socket. The stick capital engraved with numeral 1 and 3, the sconces with notches for 2 and 4. (2) Height – 24.5 cm / 9.7 inches Weight – 1400 grams / 45.01 ozt The crest is for Churchman, Cocksey, Cookesey or Cooksey, and Coventry.
